SPEAKER WILL MAKE A DECISION ON A PETITION TO REMOVE FOUR MPS

Today, Thursday, October 17, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin is set to deliver a ruling on a petition that aims to oust four current MPs from their positions in the House.

The Majority is calling for the removal of Cynthia Morrison, MP for Agona West, and Suhum Kojo Asante, Fomena MP Andrew Asiamah, and Amenfi Central MP Kwakye Ackah for filing to compete as independent candidates in the upcoming December elections.

Peter Kwakye Ackah, one of the impacted MPs, expressed his lack of concern for the Speaker of Parliament’s impending ruling.

I have not announced my departure from the party. In the upcoming legislative session, my goal is to run as an independent candidate. If someone is currently a member of either NPP or NDC and decides to run as an independent candidate, it does not necessarily mean they are renouncing their party affiliation.

He stated that he does not intend to align with the NPP in the upcoming parliament. I think that’s the way I perceive it.

Any action taken should elicit a corresponding reaction. Make sure you are prepared for it. If you claim independence and the Speaker declares your seat vacant, there is little recourse as challenging them is impossible due to their imprisonment.
