NAPO criticizes GNAPS for their priority placement petition

The NPP’s running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has criticized the Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS) for filing a petition with the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) regarding supposed discrimination in the Free Senior High School programme.

Private schools believe that the government’s policy of reserving 30 percent of seats at Category “A” senior high schools for public school students is discriminatory against students from private schools.

During an engagement with students of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) on Tuesday, November 19, the NPP’s running mate criticized the private schools for their stance.

I can’t believe that the Ghana National Association of Private Schools is actually considering taking legal action to prevent the Free SHS program from reserving 30% of placements for underprivileged students attending public schools. The nerve of them to try and block these opportunities for those in need is unbelievable.

I carefully considered the options before deciding on the 30 percent equity allocation. It was already in existence, but it was often misused by those who were well-connected and privileged.
