WE WILL TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE OPINIONS OF STAKEHOLDERS ON MERGING PURC AND THE ENERGY COMMISSION – HERBERT KRAPA

Herbert Krapa, the Minister of State at the Ministry of Energy, has stated that discussions with stakeholders are still in progress for the completion of the planned merger between the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) and the Energy Commission of Ghana.

This proposal, which has garnered attention from industry experts and policymakers, seeks to simplify regulatory processes, lower operating expenses, and address possible redundancies in monitoring Ghana’s energy industry.

The Institute of Energy Security has stated their approval of the merger, asserting that consolidating the two regulatory bodies will lead to cost savings and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of energy regulation in Ghana.

During a media interview after an event celebrating Customer Focus Week at the Energy Ministry, Mr. Krapa mentioned that the government is aiming to obtain an effective regulator following discussions with stakeholders.

The outcome of the stakeholder consultation will determine my position. We want an efficient regulator that combines technical and financial aspects to improve our effectiveness, rather than separating them.

The consultations have not yet concluded. Ultimately, my position is to create an efficient regulator that will benefit the people of Ghana through the outcomes of thorough consultations.

He also encouraged bureaus and divisions operating under the Energy Ministry to enhance the calibre of services offered to clients and customers.

I am thrilled about our ability to commemorate this Client Focus Week, as well as being aware that we are the only ministry participating in this event. We prioritize our clients’ needs and strive to go above and beyond to exceed their expectations.

I hope this will be a chance for our agencies and the ministry to reflect on ways to enhance the services we offer to our customers.
