The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has underlined the pressing need for reforms in Ghana’s healthcare sector due to the escalating costs and insufficient infrastructure.
During the commissioning of a newly constructed maternity and children’s ward in Bodom, Nkoranza North on Tuesday, November 12, Mahama reiterated his pledge to provide free primary healthcare to all citizens of Ghana, alongside his wife, Lordina Mahama.
He emphasized the importance of prioritizing accessible and affordable healthcare, especially for underserved communities.
If Mahama wins the December elections, enhancing healthcare infrastructure and increasing the availability of essential services will be crucial priorities for his administration.
A large number of Ghanaians are unable to receive the necessary medical care due to exorbitant costs, despite the presence of healthcare facilities.
Among other reasons, the next NDC government, which I hope to lead by the grace of God, will focus on crucial social programs aimed at improving healthcare accessibility and affordability for all Ghanaians, regardless of their socioeconomic status.
He stated that in the next NDC administration, a program for providing free sanitary pads to all girls will be implemented in order to increase school attendance among female students.
Our goal is to implement a complimentary sanitary pad initiative for female students in secondary schools to ensure they can attend school regularly without missing classes due to a lack of access to hygienic pads. This is a new program that we will be implementing specifically for female students in schools.
This effort will have a direct impact on the well-being and attendance of young girls, guaranteeing they are able to persevere in their education.
