The National Democratic Congress (NDC) plans to bring a petition to Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II regarding allegations of a rigging scheme in the Ashanti Region. The plot supposedly involves Brigadier General Michael Opoku, General Officer Commanding the Central Command of the Ghana Armed Forces.
The party asserts that the supposed scheme, which they claim was orchestrated under government directives, aims to disrupt the electoral process, beginning with the special voting exercise on December 2.
During a press briefing on Tuesday, November 19, Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC’s National Communications Officer, announced that the party is reaching out to the Asantehene for assistance in avoiding any potential outbreak of violence.
We will notify the King of the Ashanti people, a strong advocate for peace during the upcoming December 7 election, about the activities of Brigadier General Michael Opoku, whose headquarters is located in Kumasi. Our goal is to prioritize peace and ensure a smooth electoral process.
“I am aware that the Otumfuo values the peace in Kumasi and the Ashanti region, and he will likely want to intervene in this situation and address the individual involved.”
