ELECTION 2024: BAWUMIA EMPATHIZES WITH SUFFERING GHANAIANS, COMING FROM THE STREETS

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s presidential candidate, has shown compassion for the struggles of many Ghanaians, particularly those working in the informal sector.

During a discussion with stakeholders in the creative arts industry on October 16, Dr. Bawumia promised that if he won the 2024 general elections, his government would focus on implementing policies to help those in need.

His personal journey included working in a variety of menial jobs such as farm labourer, taxi driver, and cleaner. Through these experiences, he gained a first-hand understanding of the daily challenges faced by Ghanaians.

Dr. Bawumia also thought about the charitable contributions he has made, especially with Rev. Father Andrew Campbell founded the Lepers Aid Committee and offered support to the lepers’ community at the Weija Leprosarium.

Dr Bawumia restated his dedication to providing improved opportunities for individuals from all social and economic backgrounds.

What really touches my heart in politics is seeing the suffering of the people in this country. I am the patron of Lepers Aid Ghana. The lepers and I are eating and drinking together. I want to help lepers in Ghana.

Before, I worked as a farm laborer, a day worker, and a cleaner. I understand the struggles people go through. I am a loyal supporter of Mother Theresa’s soup kitchen at Christ the King Church, where I dedicate my time to caring for street children.

Father Campbell and I are the ones who do that kind of work. I wander the streets with my heart. The way I do things is the way I can help people. “Free Senior High School, digitalisation dey helps plenty,” he responded in pidgin to Shatta Wale, a dancehall artiste, when asked about the impact of technology on education.
