Head Coach Desmond Ofei of the Black Satellites commended his players for their tenacity and perseverance following Ghana’s narrow 1-0 win against the Central African Republic (CAR) in their final group match at the ongoing U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The hard-fought victory at the Suez Canal Stadium on Thursday afternoon ensured Ghana topped Group C with seven points.
The pivotal moment occurred late in the match when Joseph Amankwaah Opoku scored to secure all three points for the Black Satellites.
In his post-match interview with the Ghana FA, Coach Ofei recognized the challenges of the match and praised his team for their determination.
‘It was a challenging match. The CAR players fought valiantly and made it difficult for us at times,’ he remarked.
‘We lost several balls in our own half, which provided them with confidence and momentum, but I am proud of the resilience the boys displayed,’ he continued.
With this victory, Ghana’s U-20 team progresses to the quarter-finals of the tournament. A place in the semi-finals would ensure their qualification for the FIFA U-20 World Cup, scheduled to take place in Chile later this year.
