The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has refuted allegations that the government owes the Black Queens any outstanding per diems, asserting that all approved allowances owed to the players and eligible officials have been disbursed.
In a statement released on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, the Ministry indicated that the team received their per diems in advance on July 29, which covered the period from July 26 to August 7.
Additionally, a further payment was made on August 11 following the Black Queens’ exit from the quarter-finals of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and their ongoing presence in Morocco for the FIFA Women’s World Cup play-in qualification pathway.
This extra payment encompassed the period from August 8 to 14.
“Thus, as of August 12, 2026, the government has no outstanding per diem obligations to the Black Queens,” the Ministry stated.
The Ministry also clarified that the team is eligible for a winning bonus due to their victory over Cape Verde during the WAFCON group stage.
According to the Ministry, this bonus is currently being processed in accordance with established financial protocols.
However, it dismissed claims that the government owes the team a WAFCON qualification bonus, explaining that the existing sports financing framework does not allow for a separate bonus for qualifying through the home-and-away round.
The Ministry noted that no winning bonuses were sanctioned for the Black Queens’ qualifying matches against Egypt and that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) was appropriately informed of this stance.
This clarification comes in response to concerns expressed by members of the Black Queens regarding alleged outstanding financial obligations, welfare, and the level of support extended to the team during their WAFCON campaign.
The Ministry emphasized that the team has been provided with a comprehensive support system, which includes medical, nutritional, administrative, and technical personnel.
It was noted that the valid additional welfare requirements highlighted by the team are currently being attended to.
The Black Queens are gearing up to compete against Côte d’Ivoire in an important FIFA Women’s World Cup play-in match, where qualification is on the line.
As a result, the Ministry has called on all stakeholders to set aside financial issues and concentrate on aiding the team’s quest for qualification.
“The government continues to fully support the Black Queens,” it stated.
