The Head Coach of the Black Stars, Carlos Queiroz, has urged the players to adopt sacrifice, humility, and discipline in preparation for the nation’s opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, emphasizing that mere talent will not secure the Black Stars the respect they seek on a global scale.
With fewer than 25 days left before Ghana competes against the Panama national football team in Toronto on June 17, the Portuguese coach conveyed a powerful motivational message to his team as they ramp up preparations for the tournament in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
“The world will only respect us when our commitment, humility, sacrifice, and mentality surpass our talent,” Queiroz stated in a message disseminated by the Ghana Football Association.
The coach of the Black Stars remarked that formidable national teams are not formed through words alone, but by players who are prepared to “suffer, fight, and give everything for the badge and for the aspirations of their supporters.”
“Every training session, every duel, every sprint and pass, every minor detail is crucial at this moment,” he asserted.
“Simply being present and participating will not suffice — our objective is to enhance the reputation, pride, and prestige of Ghanaian football to unprecedented heights.”
Ghana is set to make its fifth World Cup appearance at the 2026 tournament and has been placed in Group L alongside Panama, the England national football team, and the Croatia national football team.
The Black Stars will compete against England in Boston before facing Croatia in Philadelphia for their remaining group matches.
Queiroz encouraged the players to stay united and driven, stating that “impossible missions become history” when teams are wholly dedicated to a shared objective.
“It is time to sacrifice, time to deliver,” he concluded.
