Rashid Tanko-Computer, the Administrator of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), has urged Ghanaians to recognize the significance of President John Dramani Mahama’s return, saying his success in the 2024 presidential election prevented what he called a potential collapse of the nation’s education system.
Tanko-Computer noted that the difficulties facing Ghana’s education sector became particularly apparent in the lead-up to the 2024 elections, with parents voicing their worries about the extended periods their children were at home.
He emphasized that this situation had impacted families nationwide, including his own, and contended that Mahama’s return to the presidency was essential for tackling some of the issues within the education sector.
In an interview on Tuesday, September 8, Tanko-Computer insisted that without a change in administration, the country’s education system could have faced even more severe challenges.
“Ghanaians ought to be thankful for re-electing President John Dramani Mahama; otherwise, our educational system would have faced collapse. Parents were expressing concerns about the duration their children spent at home, and I experienced the same issue.
“I had to arrange for someone to tutor my child at home because they were consistently at home for three months.
“When the Free SHS initiative was launched, we raised infrastructure concerns. Thus, when we introduced these e-blocks, they were intended to help close the access gap, but they halted the project. They did not continue with the e-blocks for eight years.
