The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has effectively disbursed GH¢270 million to healthcare providers across the country to address claims that were submitted and vetted up to October 2024, as well as part of November 2024.
In a statement issued on January 3, Dr. Da-Costa Aboagye, the Chief Executive of NHIA, indicated that these payments fall within the established three-month reimbursement timeframe, and there are currently no pending vetted claims awaiting payment.
“This recent disbursement raises the total amount allocated by the NHIA over the last four months to more than GH¢1.2 billion, underscoring the Authority’s continuous commitment to supporting healthcare providers and ensuring the sustainability of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).”
Dr. Da-Costa Aboagye encouraged healthcare facilities under the NHIA to submit their claims in a timely manner, emphasizing that claims should not extend beyond a 90-day period.
In addition to this latest payment, the NHIA has made substantial disbursements in recent months. On December 1, 2024, the NHIA allocated GH¢200 million for claims covering September and part of October 2024, following a previous disbursement of over GH¢335 million on October 9, 2024, for claims related to August 2024.
In September 2024, the NHIA initiated the disbursement of GH¢402 million to health facilities to cover claims for June and July 2024. These payments reflect the Authority’s commitment to meeting its financial responsibilities to healthcare providers and enhancing the healthcare sector for the benefit of all Ghanaians.
