The University Hospital, Legon, has temporarily halted its General Outpatient, Specialist Clinics, and Pharmacy counselling services due to the ongoing industrial action initiated by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).
In a public announcement made on Wednesday, August 12, the hospital indicated that these services will be suspended starting today, Thursday, August 13, 2026, until further notice.
The hospital explained that this decision is a direct result of the ongoing GAUA strike, which has significantly disrupted administrative functions at public universities.
However, the Emergency Department will remain operational and will continue to provide care for patients in need of emergency medical assistance.
GAUA initiated the industrial action in response to concerns regarding the implementation of its conditions of service and unresolved issues impacting the welfare of university administrators.
The association has been advocating for the resolution of matters it claims have persisted despite discussions with the appropriate authorities.
The strike has had a considerable impact on administrative operations across public universities, prompting institutions to implement measures to mitigate the effects on their activities.
In the meantime, the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, is scheduled to meet with GAUA representatives this week in an effort to address the issues that have led to the industrial action.
