The Supreme Court has postponed indefinitely the hearing of a motion aimed at halting the ongoing proceedings related to the determination of a Prima Facie case concerning petitions for the removal of the Chief Justice.
This postponement was necessitated by the absence of the Attorney General, who had received permission from the Chief Justice to be excused.
The Attorney General requested the Chief Justice to delay all cases involving his office from April 7 to April 10, citing ongoing training for lawyers at the Attorney General’s office.
In response, two state Attorneys, including a former Personal Assistant to Godfred Dame during his time as Attorney General, sought an adjournment as a courtesy to the court.
However, Godfred Yeboah Dame, representing the plaintiff Vincent Ekow Asafuah, expressed astonishment at the decision of Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine and his deputy, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, to be absent due to a training workshop for state Attorneys.
Godfred Dame then requested the court to reschedule the case for Monday, April 14.
The plaintiff is seeking a declaration from the Supreme Court that the president’s decision to consult the Council of State regarding the determination of Prima Facie without first obtaining the Chief Justice’s input is unconstitutional.
Nevertheless, the court, under the leadership of Justice Henrietta Mensah Bonsu, opted to adjourn the case indefinitely.
