Parliament has officially inaugurated the “Parliament and You” educational series, an initiative designed to enhance young individuals’ comprehension of parliamentary democracy, governance, and civic duty.
This program, which is being executed through a collaboration between Parliament and Graphic Communications Group Limited, is themed “Promoting Parliamentary Education Among the Young.”
Its objective is to close the gap between children and the operations of Parliament by offering accessible and engaging information regarding the nation’s legislative processes.
In launching the initiative on behalf of the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, the First Deputy Speaker, Bernard Ahiafor, emphasized the significance of investing in the education and empowerment of youth.
He remarked that involving children in discussions about civic matters and governance is crucial for equipping them to take on leadership roles in the future.
He asserted that a comprehensive and inclusive approach to civic education is essential for cultivating responsible citizens and future leaders.
He emphasized that empowering today’s youth will enable them to confidently take a central role in national development in the future.
The Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, and the Minority Leader, Osahen Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, praised the initiative, calling it a timely intervention that would assist children in gaining a deeper understanding of parliamentary processes and democratic governance.
They urged Graphic Communications Group Limited to ensure that the information disseminated through the program remains accurate, engaging, and tailored to the needs of children.
The Clerk to Parliament, Mr. Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, and the Managing Director of Graphic Communications Group Limited, Mr. Ato Afful, also underscored the importance of this initiative.
They highlighted that children ought to be viewed not merely as future leaders but also as significant stakeholders whose opinions and viewpoints warrant consideration in the present.
They encouraged young participants to maintain their curiosity, pose inquiries, and seize opportunities to gain knowledge about governance and civic duties.
The Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, motivated the children to view the programme as a beneficial platform for education and personal growth.
In support of this initiative, he contributed 25 laptops to facilitate educational endeavors and improve access to learning materials.
The “Parliament and You” series aims to enhance civic consciousness among children and foster a greater interest in democratic governance, leadership, and active citizenship throughout the nation.
