The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of Sekondi College (SEKCO) has announced its intention to petition the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to allow 154 candidates who were unable to take their Chemistry Theory and Objective papers on Wednesday to sit for the examination.
The PTA stated that these students were barred from entering the examination hall due to alleged tardiness caused by heavy rainfall in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis that morning.
In an interview conducted on Friday, June 12, the Chairperson of the SEKCO PTA, Mercy Dadzie, revealed that parents would also seek assistance from the Western Regional Minister to help address the issue.
She noted that some of the affected candidates, including her own child, arrived at the examination center just a few minutes after the paper commenced but were denied entry by an external invigilator.
Mrs. Dadzie urged WAEC to consider the future of the affected students and offer them another chance to take the examination.
“There exists a regulation governing examinations. Even if the students were late, they should have been permitted to take the paper, with the time lost deducted from their examination duration. They could have also faced penalties for their lateness.
At the very least, they would have had the chance to attempt the questions and potentially earn some marks. We are appealing to WAEC for assistance. This matter directly affects the future of these children,” she stated.
