The Ministry of Health has rejected the assertions made by former Health Minister Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, which claim that the government has not fulfilled its payment obligations to the contractor involved in the La General Hospital project.
Dr. Okoe Boye alleged that the government has neglected the project, despite a budget allocation of ₵60 million.
In response to these allegations on Thursday, October 16, 2025, Tony Goodman, a spokesperson for the Ministry, asserted that the government is fully dedicated to the completion of the hospital.
“The reality is that we are allocating ₵130 million — the Minister publicly stated this. We have instructed the contractor to return to the site. Whether it is ₵30 million or ₵60 million is not for him to determine,” Mr. Goodman stated.
He also criticized Dr. Okoe Boye for what he termed an effort to deflect responsibility, contending that the former minister did not complete the project during his time in office.
“He let the people down and failed to deliver what was anticipated. Now that the project is under the management of another individual, he should permit the new minister to proceed with the work,” he continued.
The La General Hospital project, which has encountered numerous delays since its demolition in 2020, has been a significant source of public concern over the years, with both residents and health professionals consistently urging for its prompt completion.
