President John Dramani Mahama has declared that China has pledged an additional grant of 200 million RMB to Ghana.
This is in addition to a previous grant of 200 million RMB designated for the development of the proposed Aflao Market and the refurbishment of the National Theatre in Accra.
As stated by President Mahama, the Aflao Market is anticipated to serve as a crucial trading center connecting Ghana and Togo, in line with his overarching “Resetting Ghana” initiative.
He also disclosed that Ghana intends to finalize a Zero-Tariff Policy with China by the end of October.
Other subjects addressed during the meeting with President Xi Jinping included enhancing the regulation of small-scale mining to ensure that operations are conducted responsibly and with proper licensing, as well as broadening trade and investment prospects for Ghana’s business community.
China has shown interest in backing Ghana’s 24-hour economy initiative and its Green Transition policy, positioning itself as a collaborator for both the government and private sectors.
President Mahama reiterated Ghana’s dedication to the One China Policy and expressed a strong desire to continue bilateral cooperation under what he referred to as a new era of global governance.
