The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has directed the management of the Saint Vincent College of Education to reopen the institution, following a successful resolution with Ya-Naa Abukari Mahama.
Previously, the Ya-Naa had mandated the closure of the college due to unrest related to the appointment of a new principal.
In a noteworthy development today, Professor Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, the Director-General of GTEC, accompanied by Commission staff, visited the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi, where an agreement was established to permit the college to recommence its activities.
Professor Abdulai confirmed that the institution is set to be fully operational by Wednesday, January 22. “I wish to reassure the public and stakeholders in tertiary education that the matters have been addressed, and normalcy is expected to return to the institution by tomorrow,” he remarked.
In light of public concerns regarding the closure, Musah Yakubu, the Public Relations Officer for the Ya-Naa, clarified that the decision to close the school was not motivated by any personal interests.
He elaborated that the closure was a temporary action aimed at restoring peace and facilitating discussions. “His Majesty sought to restore calm in order to engage with the Director-General of GTEC.
“The discussions have now been successfully concluded, and all issues have been resolved. We are optimistic that Saint Vincent will resume its operations as scheduled.”
