The Parliamentary Select Committee on Education has initiated a three-day capacity-building program aimed at enhancing the oversight and legislative functions of its members within Ghana’s education sector.
Under the leadership of Peter Nortsu-Kotoe Kwasi, the Committee commenced sessions focusing on its constitutional and statutory responsibilities, the legal and regulatory framework that governs education, proposed amendments, and the principles of ethical leadership in Parliamentary governance.
Members engaged in practical discussions regarding Parliamentary procedures, requirements for disclosure and recusal, as well as the broader reforms necessary to enhance education delivery throughout the nation.
A primary emphasis of the training is to bolster accountability within the sector, highlighting the necessity for public agencies to respond to invitations and appear before the Committee when called upon.
The Ranking Member of the Committee and former Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, provided insights drawn from his tenure in office and outlined actionable strategies for the Committee to facilitate improved educational outcomes.
The program began on August 3 and is anticipated to conclude on August 5, 2026.
