The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has announced that the government will need around $25 million to acquire all essential vaccines for the nation this year.
Mr. Akandoh voiced his concerns regarding the gradual reduction of donor assistance in Ghana’s healthcare sector, labeling this trend as alarming.
This situation has arisen following funding reductions to USAID implemented by former U.S. President Donald Trump, which have had a significant impact on the availability of vital medications and financial resources for Ghana’s healthcare system.
During a meeting with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana on Monday, April 14, Mr. Akandoh emphasized that the government has no alternative due to the decline in aid.
“It is important to recognize that our partners who help us procure most of our vaccines are slowly diminishing. This year, we require at least $25 million to import vaccines into the country,” he remarked.
