The former Executive Director of the National Service Authority (NSA), Osei Assibey Antwi, along with his deputy, Gifty Oware, is scheduled to appear in court today, Friday, 17th October 2025, to respond to allegations of financial misconduct involving several million cedis.
Mr. Assibey Antwi is facing 14 charges, which include causing financial loss to the state, theft, and money laundering.
These charges are based on sections 179A(1) and 124(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), as well as section 1(2)(c) of the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2020 (Act 1044).
Prosecutors claim that the former NSS director allegedly authorized payments to more than 60,000 fictitious national service personnel and misappropriated public funds during his term from August 2021 to February 2025.
His deputy, Gifty Oware, is also facing several charges, including theft, money laundering, and abuse of office.
The Attorney-General’s Department accuses her of misappropriating approximately GH¢38.46 million between February 2022 and March 2024, while she was responsible for finance, audit, and procurement at the Authority.
Prosecutors allege that Ms. Oware unlawfully transferred GH¢31.5 million from a loan facility intended to assist national service personnel into the account of her private company, Blocks of Life Consult, under the pretense of supplying goods through a hire-purchase agreement.
