Ben Nunoo Mensah, the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, has called on the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, to take decisive action by submitting a bid to host the 2028 Commonwealth Youth Games.
In an interview, the outgoing president of the GOC highlighted that seizing this opportunity could prevent the Borteyman Sports Complex from falling into disrepair. This complex, which was completed in 2024 for the African Games, has not yet hosted any significant sporting events since its inauguration.

Nunoo Mensah voiced his concerns that without consistent usage, the facility risks becoming neglected.
“If we do not utilize the Borteyman facility and ensure it is engaged in at least one tournament every three months, it will deteriorate rapidly,” he remarked.
“We possess sufficient facilities to host the Commonwealth Youth Games. I urge the Sports Minister to be courageous and advocate for our bid for the next Commonwealth Youth Games.”
He further asserted that Ghana is well-equipped to host the event.
“Ghana is fully capable of hosting it. We have the necessary hotels, an efficient transport system, and adequate facilities. I believe we should capitalize on the resources we have,” he concluded.
