Ebenezer Doku, the former Municipal Chief Executive of Adentan, has denied allegations that Kennedy Agyapong, a presidential aspirant from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), received an endorsement from a collective of 220 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) who were affiliated with the NPP from 2017 to 2024.
In an interview on Monday, June 23, following a private meeting with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, a former Vice President and current presidential candidate, Doku clarified that Agyapong had initiated a prior meeting with the group.
He stressed that although Agyapong was polite and friendly during their discussion, no formal endorsement was granted to him.
“We have representatives from various regions, and the total number from all the other regions amounted to 220. Ken reached out to us, but we did not approach him. He invited us to meet and conveyed his message. Other speakers also addressed the gathering. He treated us well, and after the meeting, we enjoyed a meal together before departing.
“There was no communication as we have today. We did not indicate to him that we would support him. Our lack of response indicates that we are considering another candidate,” he stated.
The group has now officially announced its endorsement of Dr. Bawumia to lead the NPP in the upcoming 2028 general elections, marking a significant enhancement of the former Vice President’s position as party affiliations start to take shape in the aftermath of the 2024 elections.
