The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has asserted that the party’s primary aim is to reclaim political power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming 2028 general elections.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized that the ongoing internal reorganization within the party is a vital step towards revitalizing its structures and equipping its members for the next general election.
He made these statements on Sunday, August 16, while addressing the newly elected Greater Accra Regional executives of the NPP following the party’s regional executive elections.
The former Vice President encouraged the newly elected executives to dedicate themselves to the reorganization process fully and to work towards fortifying the party at all levels.
He pointed out that the regional elections held on August 15 should not be perceived as the conclusion of the party’s internal activities, but rather as part of a larger initiative aimed at establishing a more robust and effective political organization capable of securing victory in the 2028 election.
“Our collective objective is to win the 2028 election. This is merely a stepping stone towards achieving that goal. As a party, we have been involved in a reorganization exercise. We have conducted our polling station elections, our electoral area elections, our constituency elections, and now we have completed our regional elections.
“We will conclude this process on October 10 with the national elections, and by the end of that, the party will be well-positioned to have the vehicle that propels us to victory in 2028. Therefore, there is significant work ahead of us.”
Dr. Bawumia also reminded the executives that their election should be regarded as a responsibility rather than just a political accomplishment, considering the extensive work needed to reposition the party in preparation for the 2028 elections.
