President John Dramani Mahama engaged in bilateral discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing during his visit for the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women.
This meeting, which marked the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Ghana and China, aimed at enhancing political and economic collaboration between the two countries.
President Xi reiterated China’s dedication to strengthening its partnership with Ghana, emphasizing the importance of both nations collaborating to advance shared interests and promote development.
He stated that China is prepared to collaborate with Ghana to elevate cooperation across various sectors and contribute significantly to establishing a resilient China-Africa community with a shared future in the new era.
Xi highlighted the necessity of executing the outcomes from the 2024 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and investigating new opportunities for collaboration in mining, energy, infrastructure, agriculture, and fisheries.
He also mentioned that China would assist Ghana in converting its resource wealth into sustainable development and expressed hope that Ghana would soon take advantage of China’s zero-tariff policy for African nations.
In response, President Mahama congratulated China on its successful hosting of the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women, calling the event “of great significance” and a testament to China’s leadership in advocating for gender equality and women’s empowerment worldwide.
He reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to the One-China policy and expressed hope for enhanced cooperation in critical sectors.
Additionally, he emphasized Ghana’s dedication to multilateralism and reforms in global governance, promising support for initiatives that foster fairness and justice in international relations.
The meeting solidified the enduring partnership between Ghana and China, with both leaders expressing confidence in a more vibrant and mutually advantageous relationship in the future.
