Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, has urged for discipline, reorganization, and unity within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the party readies itself for its presidential primaries and the upcoming 2028 general election.
In a post on X, previously known as Twitter, on the evening of June 20, the lawmaker highlighted the necessity for a more robust and cohesive party structure if the NPP aims to regain power in the forthcoming general elections.
“The New Patriotic Party (NPP) requires a strong, well-organized, and disciplined party to produce a President, rather than merely a Flagbearer,” he stated.
Boamah’s remarks arise during a period when the party is still grappling with the aftermath of its defeat in the 2024 general elections. Numerous party members and political analysts have since advocated for significant introspection and restructuring in preparation for the next electoral cycle.
The NPP is preparing for a competitive presidential primary set for January 31, 2026, with several prominent candidates anticipated to participate. Among these are Former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, former Agriculture Minister, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, and the outspoken former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong.
In the meantime, Kwasi Kwarteng, a former spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, has indicated that Patrick Boamah might be considering entering the flagbearer race, although the MP has not yet made an official announcement.
