Communications Minister Sam George Nartey has underscored the significance of the technology sector as a fundamental component in Ghana’s strategy to rejuvenate and transform its economy.
During the first-quarter press briefing held on April 9, he emphasized the vital role that technology plays in establishing Ghana as a leader in the global digital and competitive landscape.
“The technology sector is essential for positioning Ghana at the forefront of the digital and competitive global economy,” he remarked.
Acknowledging the transformative power of technology, President John Dramani Mahama had previously pledged to initiate the iMillion Coders program, an ambitious project aimed at training one million young Ghanaians in digital competencies, he noted.
The Minister pointed out that this initiative is intended to empower the youth by providing them with the essential skills needed to excel in rapidly changing fields such as business processes and knowledge management.
“This programme will equip young individuals with the necessary skills to succeed in an increasingly digital and competitive environment,” he clarified.
In alignment with this vision, his ministry has promptly taken steps to implement the 1Million Coders programme.
“We have acted swiftly to ensure that this vision is realized, preparing our youth for the future workforce,” he stated.
“The Ministry is actively engaged in mobilizing partners and securing the resources essential for the successful execution of the programme,” he added.
He also highlighted the necessity of collaboration to achieve the programme’s objectives.
“Through strategic diplomacy and public-private partnerships, we are dedicated to delivering the outcomes needed to enhance our youth’s skills and prepare them for future challenges,” he concluded.
