The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced that it has successfully recovered approximately GH¢80 million from utility providers on behalf of consumers who neglected to pay their bills.
The Commission noted that a large number of defaulters were located in the Ashanti Region, where many consumers have not been fulfilling their payment responsibilities.
Richard Asiedu, the Ashanti Regional Head of Public Relations at PURC, stated on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, that the Commission is dedicated to safeguarding the interests of both consumers and service providers.
“Conversely, the utilities have also brought some complaints to our attention. In this context, the Commission has achieved recoveries totaling GH¢80,632,623.30. Through our efforts, we have also enabled the replacement of nine defective poles reported to us in the third quarter and conducted seven transformer replacements in collaboration with the utilities,” he mentioned.
Mr. Asiedu urged consumers who are experiencing difficulties with their electricity or water services to reach out directly to their service providers or contact the PURC for support.
“If you encounter any issues with your electricity or water usage that you believe you cannot resolve, please contact the utilities, the consumer agency, or the PURC,” he recommended.
