Ghana and the Netherlands have entered into a significant Letter of Intent aimed at collaboratively addressing the issues of illicit drugs and drug markets.
The agreement was signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and the Minister of Justice and Security of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, D.M. Van Weel, during the Minister’s official visit to Ghana.
Mr. Ablakwa stated that this agreement is a continuation of the Accra Call to Action and is designed to enhance international cooperation in combating the illicit drug trade.
He emphasized that both Ghana and the Netherlands aspire to take a leading role on a global scale in confronting the drug crisis, which he noted is devastating young lives, compromising public health, eroding the rule of law, and impacting human rights.
Reiterating the importance of the Accra Call to Action, Mr. Ablakwa expressed that the two nations aim to provide global leadership on this vital issue, which is harming young lives, threatening public health, undermining the rule of law, and severely affecting human rights.
“We are optimistic that authentic and dependable international collaboration will eradicate the drug markets inundating our countries with cocaine, synthetic drugs, and illicit financial flows,” he posted on X.
