The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) has formally requested the Ministry of Education to expedite the disbursement of outstanding funds essential for the effective functioning of Senior High Schools throughout Ghana, as preparations are underway for the reopening for the 2025 academic year.
In a statement issued by CHASS’ National Secretary, Primus Baro, the conference referred to previous communications dated September 20, 2024, and August 12, 2024, along with commitments made by the Minister of Education during a Zoom meeting on December 18, 2024, which have yet to be fulfilled.
CHASS indicated in its statement that the government’s outstanding debts related to perishable goods and unpaid utility bills, among other issues, continue to obstruct the operations of Senior High Schools nationwide.
The association underscored the importance of these funds in ensuring that schools can reopen as planned on January 3, 2025. Without these financial resources, CHASS warned that school administrators would encounter significant difficulties in delivering quality education, maintaining facilities, and ensuring the welfare of students.
Consequently, CHASS is calling on the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Education to prioritize the allocation of these funds to facilitate seamless operations.
