The Parliamentary Committee on Trade, Industry, and Tourism has unveiled initiatives aimed at enhancing support for the private sector, which includes the implementation of tax relief measures designed to facilitate business expansion and generate additional employment opportunities for the youth.
During a visit to Zonda Tec Ghana Limited, the Committee Chairman, Alexander Roosevelt, reiterated the government’s dedication to addressing unemployment in the nation.
He highlighted that empowering private businesses is a fundamental approach to fostering job creation and promoting sustainable economic development.
“We consistently support industries that comply with our regulations. We also back those that make significant contributions to our GDP and respect those that ensure a substantial number of our citizens are employed.
“Any assistance we provide will take the form of tax reliefs and other measures, and we are prepared to advocate for this in Parliament.
Our goal is to encourage successful companies to grow so they can hire more of our people,” he remarked.
Yang Yang, the Managing Director of Zonda Tec Ghana Limited, voiced her concerns regarding the recent elimination of tax exemptions, indicating that this change is obstructing the operations of the vehicle assembly company.
She urged the government to reassess such policies to enable local manufacturers to prosper and play a more significant role in Ghana’s industrialization efforts.
“How can we assemble vehicles without benefiting from any supportive policies? Previously, we were exempt from paying duties on materials upon arrival at the harbor, but now we are required to pay for everything. This has severely impacted our operations, and we appeal to Parliament to pass the necessary legislation for us.”
