Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has declared that Parliament will soon commence drafting legislation aimed at facilitating lifestyle audits for individuals suspected of possessing unexplained wealth.
As the Speaker stated, this proposed legislation is part of a larger initiative to enhance the fight against corruption within the nation.
Once enacted, the law will grant state institutions the authority to scrutinize the lifestyles of public officials, politically exposed individuals, and private citizens whose living standards seem disproportionate to their reported income sources.
“I am currently gathering substantial input to commence legislation on lifestyle audits. It is not surprising that this matter is becoming increasingly prominent in the addresses of senior officials and civil society organizations. I am heartened that the Vice President and the Office of the Special Prosecutor have also started to engage in discussions regarding this issue,” he remarked.
“We will enact this legislation to put a stop to individuals displaying ill-gotten wealth in front of ordinary Ghanaians,” Speaker Bagbin further stated.
