Former Ghanaian boxer Michael Ayitey Okai, widely recognized as Ayitey Powers, has been placed in police custody for one week due to an alleged death threat directed at Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA).
The Dansoman Circuit Court mandated his remand during his court appearance on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
Ayitey Powers was taken into custody by the Accra Regional Police Command on Monday, August 24, after a video surfaced on social media in which he purportedly threatened the life of Mr. Ampofo Ankrah.
He is scheduled to return to court on September 2, 2026, as the police continue their investigation into the incident.
His arrest came in response to a request from the Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC) for his apprehension and prosecution regarding the alleged remarks.
