The Member of Parliament representing Guan, Fred Agbenyo, has advocated for an appropriate state burial for the late former First Lady of Ghana, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.
Madam Konadu, who was married to the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, passed away on Thursday at the Ridge Hospital in Accra at the age of 76.
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings was Ghana’s longest-serving First Lady, having held the position during both military and civilian governments led by her husband.
While addressing journalists on Thursday, several Members of Parliament honored her memory.
“She has fulfilled her role; she has made significant contributions and has served this nation admirably. I firmly believe she deserves a state burial. We must provide her with a dignified burial that she rightfully merits.
“She has fulfilled her role, and future generations will remember her with respect,” stated the Member of Parliament for Guan.
Fomena MP Andrew Asiamah Amoako, who also serves as the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, remarked, “We can only wish for her soul to be in God’s presence and in a peaceful place so that she may rest. We also wish the family strength to endure this tragic circumstance; it was unexpected for everyone.”
