The Ashanti Regional Parliamentary Caucus of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has vehemently denounced the recent remarks attributed to Kwaku Asante Boateng, the Member of Parliament for Asante Akim South, labeling them as divisive and inconsistent with the Party’s principles.
Boateng is reported to have implied that the Ashantis historically “utilized slaves for warfare” and that the descendants of such individuals are unqualified for leadership or authoritative roles within the NPP.
In a statement dated November 2, 2025, and signed by the Caucus Secretary, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the Ashanti NPP Parliamentary Caucus characterized these comments as profoundly offensive and at odds with the ideals of unity, equality, and inclusivity that are the hallmarks of the New Patriotic Party.
“The Ashanti Regional Caucus entirely disassociates itself from this narrative and unequivocally condemns it,” the statement asserted. “The NPP was established on the enduring principles of freedom, equal opportunity, and inclusivity. Our Party rewards merit, loyalty, and service — not lineage, ethnicity, or religious affiliation.”
The Caucus reiterated that every Party member, irrespective of their background or origin, possesses an equal right to aspire to any position within the NPP or national leadership.
“As the cornerstone of the NPP, the Ashanti Region rejects any efforts to exploit history, ethnicity, or identity to fracture our ranks or to question the belonging of any devoted member,” the statement further elaborated. “Such rhetoric is divisive and undermines the unity and cohesion that have been the foundation of our Party’s achievements.”
The group also called upon all members, especially those in leadership roles, to practice restraint and decorum in their public remarks, emphasizing the importance of upholding the Party’s values of respect and discipline.
“The Ashanti Regional NPP Parliamentary Caucus firmly advocates for a united Party and a united Ghana,” the statement concluded.
This statement aligns with previous clarifications made by the national leadership of the NPP, which has also disassociated the Party from comparable remarks attributed to Hon. Asante Boateng. It emphasizes the Party’s steadfast commitment to national unity, equality, and the inclusion of all Ghanaians in its development vision.
