Bank of Ghana, in its Summary of Economic and Financial Data for March 2025, has indicated that the total value of mobile money transactions in the country fell to GHC 316 billion in February 2025, a decrease from GHC 333 billion recorded in January.
In comparison, December 2024 had a higher transaction value of GHC 334.8 billion.
Throughout the previous year, mobile money transactions generally showed steady growth.
In addition, the number of transactions decreased to 698 million in February 2025, down from 726 million in January. This decline followed a peak of 745 million transactions in December 2024.
However, on a year-over-year basis, the number of transactions has significantly increased, rising from 609 million in February 2024 to 698 million in February 2025.
Following the recent repeal of the 1% electronic money levy on mobile money transactions, industry experts expect a notable recovery in the sector in the upcoming months.
