The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has officially announced the initiation of the licensing process for service providers in the gold trading industry, starting on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
Individuals who are Ghanaian citizens aged 18 and older, as well as fully Ghanaian-owned companies, are eligible to apply for a license through GoldBod’s official website, goldbod.gov.gh, or in person at the licensing office located at our headquarters in Accra.
The following categories of licenses are now available for immediate application:
• Aggregator license
• Self-financing Aggregator license
• Buyer license (Tier 2)
• Buyer license (Tier 1)
In a statement released by Prince Kwame Minkah, the Media Relations Officer, it was announced that various licenses, including the Refining License, Smelting License, Fabrication License, Storage License, Transportation License, and Importation License, will be available for application starting July 2025.
“All pertinent information regarding the mandate, policies, and operations of GoldBod can be found on our website, goldbod.gov.gh. Individuals may send messages or make inquiries to GoldBod through our website.
“Applicants are required to thoroughly read, comprehend, and accept the Terms and Conditions of a license prior to submitting their application.”
Furthermore, the GoldBod reaffirmed its previous instruction for all foreign nationals to withdraw from the local gold trading market by April 30, 2025. “Any violation of this instruction will be deemed a punishable offense under the Ghana GoldBod Act, 2025 (ACT 1140).
However, a foreign national may submit a request to the GoldBod to purchase gold from the GoldBod,” the statement indicated.
