Captain Planet, a member of the esteemed Ghanaian music group 4X4, has officially announced that the ensemble will not be reuniting. In a recent social media update, he addressed numerous inquiries from fans regarding a potential comeback, stating, ‘Massa, 4X4 will not be making a comeback.
We are too mature to reform as a group, similar to Boys II Men.’ He further mentioned that while they might occasionally perform their classic hits, 4X4 will no longer collaborate on new music.
‘Our mission was accomplished long ago. No More 4X4. We remain good friends. Just enjoy our past songs,’ he remarked. Established in 2000, 4X4 originally consisted of Captain Planet (Sylvanus Dodji Jeoffrey), Coded (Russell Edem Avornyo), and later Fresh Prince (Prince Tamakloe), who joined in 2007.
The trio gained recognition for their distinctive fusion of hip hop, Afrobeat, and vibrant hiplife, which resonated with audiences throughout Ghana and beyond.
Throughout the years, 4X4 has produced numerous popular tracks such as ‘World Trade Center’, ‘Yesi Yesi’, ‘Waist and Power’, and ‘London Bridge’, which have garnered them a dedicated following and numerous accolades at prominent Ghanaian and African music award ceremonies.
In recent times, however, the members of the group have increasingly turned their attention to individual projects and personal endeavours. Captain Planet has been consistently releasing solo music, while Coded and Fresh Prince have also engaged in solo careers and entrepreneurial activities.
Although this development may disappoint fans eager for a reunion, the enduring legacy of 4X4 remains intact.
