The President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, has initiated the construction of a Centre of Excellence for Green Technology at the Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI), with an investment of 5.6 million Euros.
This initiative is part of Ghana’s transformation agenda for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and it aims to become a center for innovation, research, and hands-on training in renewable energy and sustainable technologies.
During the ceremony, Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, remarked that this initiative is in line with the government’s “Reset Agenda,” which seeks to tackle youth unemployment through skill-based training.
He emphasized that the government is dedicated to formulating a comprehensive TVET policy and creating a specific TVET Fund to assist technical and vocational institutions across the country.
“As part of President Mahama’s Reset Agenda, His Excellency Steinmeier, we are concentrating on developing a TIVET policy and establishing a TVET fund to facilitate the skills training of young individuals, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to our national development efforts,” he stated.
The official proceedings began on Monday with President Steinmeier’s review of a full military Guard of Honour at the Forecourt of the Presidency.
Following this, President Steinmeier and his counterpart, President Mahama, engaged in a private meeting before joining their respective delegations for bilateral discussions in the Credentials Room.
The talks were centered on enhancing the relations between Ghana and Germany, particularly in the fields of trade, investment, technology, and development cooperation.
