The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has disclosed that Osei Assibey Antwi, the former Director General of the National Service Authority (NSA), allegedly compensated a Ghanaian Member of Parliament (MP) to stifle media coverage regarding the ghost names scandal.
In an update on the investigations carried out by the Office of the Attorney General and the ORAL team, Dr. Ayine affirmed that substantial progress has been achieved in exposing corruption within the scheme.
Dr. Ayine revealed that eight individuals associated with the National Service Scheme scandal have been questioned, with several providing damning evidence.
“Since these matters remain under investigation, I can confirm that the inquiry into the National Service and Sky Train Scandal is expected to conclude by mid-April, paving the way for prosecution to commence.
“Regarding the National Service Scandal, eight suspects have been interrogated, and a significant number have begun to cooperate. We now possess evidence of payments made to the accounts of senior executives of the National Service by private vendors involved in the scheme.
“Additionally, we have information indicating that in November 2024, the CEO of the NSS and others made payments to a Ghanaian Member of Parliament to suppress media coverage and to provide them with a defense,” he stated.
