The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has declared the successful completion of significant rural electrification initiatives in 13 communities located within the Central Gonja District of the Savannah Region, as part of its efforts to enhance access to dependable electricity throughout the nation.
John Abdulai Jinapor, the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, is set to officially inaugurate the electrification projects on Saturday, October 11, 2025, in the following beneficiary communities: Zomlampe, Nikpegu, Torope, Dokope, Kpatinyan, Darivogupe, Bagpe, Dawunipe, Diwurupe, Larigbani, Mammudupe, Sankaupe, and Nyinyape.
These projects are part of the government’s National Electrification Scheme, which aims to improve energy access in underserved regions, promote inclusive development, and enhance the quality of life in rural areas.
In a statement prior to the event, Minister Jinapor reiterated the government’s dedication to fair energy distribution across Ghana.
“Electricity is not merely about illuminating homes; it is about enabling opportunities, fostering enterprise, and transforming lives. Through initiatives like this, we are fulfilling our commitment to make energy the foundation of Ghana’s green and inclusive development,” he stated.
The commissioning ceremony is anticipated to gather traditional leaders, opinion influencers, officials from the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCO), representatives from the Central Gonja District Assembly, and local community members.
The Ministry indicated that this initiative embodies a wider national strategy to shift towards sustainable energy systems while ensuring that no community is overlooked in Ghana’s developmental progress.
