On Friday, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu officially established a 12-member council for the Ghana Education Service (GES) tasked with providing strategic leadership and oversight for the pre-tertiary education sector.
This council, comprising representatives from various educational stakeholders, is anticipated to offer guidance and support to assist the GES in achieving its goals and objectives, thereby enhancing the quality of education in Ghana.
The council is led by Professor Mawutor Avoke, the former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW).
Other members include Dr. Rosemond Wilson from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Professor Azeko Tahiru Salifu from the National Schools Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA), Adam Adu Marshall from the National Teaching Council (NTC), Professor Yayra Dzakadzie from the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), Rt. Rev. Paa Solomon Grant-Essilfie, who represents the Teachers’ Association, and Mrs. Mamle D. Andrews, the Chief Director of the Ministry of Education.
Additionally, the council includes Mrs. Felicia Dapaah Agyeman-Boakye as a representative of Local Government, a representative from Faith-Based Organisations, Adamu Bintu Fati representing Non-Teaching Staff of GES, Florence Bobi as a Female Educationist, and Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, the Director-General of GES.
