Kwabena Adu-Boahen, the former head of the National Signals Bureau, has been ordered by a High Court in Accra to be held in the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Organisation (EOCO) for seven days following a hearing on May 2, 2025.
This decision was made after the Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, requested the court to remand the defendant, citing intelligence that indicated Adu-Boahen had attempted to tamper with a crucial witness in the ongoing theft case.
The defense attorney, Samuel Atta Akyea, vehemently challenged this assertion, questioning the reliability of the intelligence and his client’s capacity to influence the witness.
The presiding judge initially postponed the ruling, indicating the necessity to examine the intelligence evidence privately before reaching a conclusive decision.
After considering the arguments and reviewing initial evidence, the court mandated that Adu-Boahen remains in custody for one week while further evaluations are conducted.
The judge noted that this decision strikes a balance between the rights of the accused and the state’s need to prepare witness statements.
In contrast, the other two defendants, Angela Adjei-Boateng, Adu-Boahen’s spouse, and Mildred Donkor, a former bank relations officer for the couple, have been granted bail.
Additionally, Dr. Ayine revealed that separate investigations involving Adu-Boahen are currently being conducted at Ghana Water Limited, indicating that the accused may face further legal challenges in the near future.
Adu-Boahen is scheduled to return to court on May 9, 2025.
