The High Court in Koforidua, presided over by Justice Addae, has ruled in favor of Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the Member of Parliament for the Nsawam/Adoagyiri Constituency, by rejecting a petition that contested his election.
This ruling followed the review and approval of an application submitted by Gary Nimako Marfo, the Director of Legal Affairs for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) had committed to pursuing all legal options to contest the parliamentary seat occupied by the MP.
The NDC argued that the MP’s declaration was inconsistent with electoral regulations and was based on erroneous result sheets, which led to their vigorous opposition.
On Tuesday, February 25, the bailiff of the Koforidua High Court issued a substituted order mandating Annoh-Dompreh, the Electoral Commission, and the Clerk of Parliament to appear in court in Koforidua.
This order was related to an election petition lodged by the NDC, which claimed that the Electoral Commission had made an improper declaration in favor of Annoh-Dompreh.
The case, led by NDC parliamentary candidate Fummey Selorm Philibert and his legal team, challenged the validity of Annoh-Dompreh’s election as the MP for Nsawam Adoagyiri.
However, the court’s decision on Thursday, April 10, not only dismissed the petition but also imposed a cost of GH₵25,000 on the petitioner.
This ruling reinforces Annoh-Dompreh’s status as the duly elected representative for the constituency, effectively concluding the legal dispute regarding his election.
