Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has voiced his concerns regarding the escalating tensions between Members of Parliament (MPs) and District Chief Executives (DCEs), cautioning that this rivalry is detrimental to development efforts in the region.
Dr. Amoakohene stated that the strained relationships between these two groups of local leaders have impeded the execution of essential projects and disrupted coordination at the district level.
While addressing journalists in Kumasi on Monday, October 6, 2025, he characterized the situation as unhealthy and urged enhanced collaboration to facilitate the effective implementation of government initiatives throughout the Ashanti Region.
“The rivalry and the fact that they are not on very good terms will hinder the approval of the District Assemblies Common Fund, which is meant for the MPs, and some use that as a way to settle scores,” he remarked.
Dr. Amoakohene also pointed out that in numerous districts, inadequate communication between MPs and DCEs has led to unnecessary friction and confusion, thereby delaying significant development programs.
“In some of the districts, because they may not understand each other, they decide or pretend not to be aware of initiatives coming from the assemblies. This is not helpful. For local governance to work effectively, we need to carry along all stakeholders,” he emphasized.
The Minister called on both MPs and DCEs to prioritize cooperation over competition to expedite progress and fulfill the government’s development agenda for the region.
