Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has declared that more than 16,000 government services will soon be available through an enhanced Ghana.Gov platform, as part of initiatives aimed at modernizing public service delivery and advancing digital governance.
During a media briefing on Thursday, July 3, he revealed that the Ghana.Gov platform is currently undergoing a thorough redesign, led by the Ministry in partnership with the National Information Technology Agency (NITA).
“The Ghana.Gov platform is undergoing a comprehensive reengineering process, spearheaded by the Ministry and NITA, to modernize the interaction between citizens and the government. The revamped site, which will be launched following the public tender process, will offer significantly quicker access, complete integration with the Ghana Card, and a user-friendly, streamlined interface designed for both individuals and businesses.”
He further stated that upon completion, the new platform will improve transparency, convenience, and reliability in accessing public services, facilitating easier interactions between citizens and the government without physical obstacles.
“We plan to incorporate 16,000 government services onto that platform,” Sam George emphasized, highlighting the administration’s dedication to digital transformation.
In a related update, the Minister reassured Ghanaians that while digital systems are being fortified, the freedoms of citizens will continue to be safeguarded. He reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining free speech, even as it seeks to address the increasing threat of misinformation online.
He disclosed that the National Misinformation and Disinformation Bill is nearing its final stages and will be submitted to Parliament in the upcoming session.
The proposed legislation, he noted, aims to mitigate the intentional dissemination of false information while protecting the essential right to free expression.
