President John Dramani Mahama urged global leaders and development partners to move beyond rhetoric and implement decisive actions that advance women’s empowerment and gender equality.
In his address at the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women in Beijing on October 13, President Mahama stressed the importance of governments translating commitments into tangible actions that improve the lives of women and girls, particularly in Africa.
“The African woman is especially at risk, and I would like to take this opportunity to urge my fellow African leaders to prioritize the welfare and empowerment of our women,” he remarked.
The President emphasized that gender equality represents both a matter of justice and a driver of sustainable development.
Drawing on Ghana’s experience, President Mahama observed that investment in women leads to substantial gains in productivity, innovation, and social cohesion.
“As we turn our attention to Beijing, I urge all governments and partners to transcend empty statements and commit to transformative actions,” he stated, stressing that this anniversary should signify a pivotal moment in global initiatives for equality.
He concluded by advocating for collective action to ensure that the coming decade is marked by substantial progress and shared prosperity for women and girls worldwide.
