A private legal practitioner, Jonathan Owusu Asare, has officially reached out to the Office of the President to seek confirmation regarding reports that a petition has been submitted for the removal of Supreme Court Justice Yonny Kulendi.
In a letter dated October 7, 2025, addressed to the Information Officer at the Jubilee House, the attorney referenced the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989) and Article 21(1)(f) of the 1992 Constitution, which ensures citizens’ right to access information that serves the public interest.
Mr. Asare clarified that his inquiry is a response to media reports and public discourse surrounding a petition advocating for Justice Kulendi’s removal due to alleged judicial misconduct.
The petition, submitted by Daniel Marfo Ofori-Atta on September 30, 2025, accuses the judge of inappropriately interfering in proceedings at the High Court related to the now-discontinued ambulance procurement trial involving current Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and two other individuals.
In his request, the lawyer sought confirmation from the Presidency on:
- Whether a petition for the removal of Justice Yonny Kulendi has indeed been filed; and
- When such a petition was submitted.
Mr. Asare stated that the request was made “in the interest of transparency, accountability, and to clarify the position of the Presidency in this matter.”
If confirmed to have been formally submitted, the petition is anticipated to initiate constitutional procedures as outlined in Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution.
