The family of the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, has requested that the public respect their privacy in light of her recent passing.
Oheneba Akwesi Abayie, the head of the family, has confirmed that all pertinent institutions have been officially informed of her death.
While addressing journalists in Accra on Thursday, October 23, Oheneba Akwesi Abayie also revealed that the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has been appropriately notified of this development.
He mentioned that additional information regarding funeral arrangements will be provided in due time.
“His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama, has requested an official statement to confirm the death of Nana Konadu. At this moment, the family is understandably in mourning and kindly asks for your understanding in granting us some privacy. All further announcements will be communicated by the government,” he stated.
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, who passed away at the age of 76 at the Ridge Hospital in Accra on Thursday, was a significant figure in Ghana’s political and social landscape.
Born on November 17, 1948, in Cape Coast, she received her education at Ghana International School and Achimota School, where she met her future husband, the late President Jerry John Rawlings. She later attended the University of Science and Technology (now KNUST), where she pursued studies in Art and Textiles, and subsequently obtained a diploma in Interior Design from the London College of Arts.
Throughout her life, Nana Konadu consistently sought to expand her knowledge, acquiring qualifications in Personnel Management, Development Studies, and fellowships in Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership in the United States.
