The chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensa, has stated that the Electoral Commission does not foresee any shortages of election materials and equipment across the country for the upcoming elections on December 7.
During what she described as her final media engagement prior to the election day on December 7, 2024, the EC chairperson indicated that all necessary materials and equipment had been adequately distributed to the various regions, asserting, “we do not anticipate any shortages in any area of the country.”
She noted that a total of 18,774,159 registered voters, which constitutes 55 percent of the overall population, are expected to participate in the elections on December 7.
Providing an update on the special voting process, she reported that it was not only successful but also achieved a high voter turnout, with the lowest turnout recorded at 83 percent.
Regarding media accreditation, she mentioned that the commission has issued nearly 10,000 accreditations to media personnel, granting them access to polling stations as well as constituency and regional collation centers.
She encouraged journalists to utilize their platforms and resources to inform the public, emphasizing the importance of delivering accurate and truthful information.
“Rise to the task and cover elections accurately and truthfully,” she urged.
Concerning observers, she revealed that the Commission has accredited over 20,000 local and international observers. Furthermore, Mrs. Mensa stated that these observers have been provided with maps to assist them in locating the various polling centers.
